Clinical significance

Parainfluenza Virus (Types 1, 2, 3 and 4) RNA, Qualitative, Real-Time PCR - Human parainfluenza virus (types 1, 2, 3 and 4) are important respiratory pathogens and are major causes of upper and lower respiratory tract diseases. A multiplex Real-Time RT-PCR assay offers the advantages of increased specificity and sensitivity, identification of HPIV type in a single reaction, and rapid availability of the results. All of these factors will assist the clinician in the diagnosis of respiratory disease, decrease inappropriate use of antibiotics, as well as reduce time of hospitalization and help prevent nosocomial infections.
