Clinical Significance

Somatostatin - Somatostatin is a neurohormone produced in the brain, hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract. This test is used to diagnose somatostatin-producing tumors. Elevated levels are observed with somatostatinoma, medullary thyroid carcinoma and pheochromocytoma.
