Clinical significance

Silicon, Urine - Exposure monitoring/investigation; this test assesses the presence of Silicon and does NOT measure Silica or Silicone. Silica is silicon dioxide (SiO2), which is found in quartz and sand. Silicones are inert synthetic organosilicon compounds used in adhesives, sealants, lubricants, medical applications, insulation and cooking utensils.

Patient preparation	Avoid exposure to gadolinium based contrast media for 48 hours prior to sample collection
Preferred specimen(s)	6 mL urine collected in an acid-washed or trace metal-free plastic urine container
Minimum volume	2.7 mL
Transport container	Acid-washed or trace metal-free plastic urine container
Transport temperature	Room temperature
Specimen stability	Room temperature: 14 days Refrigerated: 14 days Frozen: 30 days
