| Alternative specimen(s) | Whole blood collected in: Sodium heparin (royal blue-top) tube Tests performed on a specimen submitted in a non-trace element tube or non acid-washed/non metal-free container may not accurately reflect the patient's level. If a non-trace element tube/container is received, it will be accepted for testing. However, elevated results shall be reported with a message that re-submission with a trace element tube/container is recommended. Note: Lead testing will not be performed on a specimen submitted in a non-trace element tube or non acid-washed/non metal-free container. |

| Collection instructions | Patients should be 18 years of age or greater. Do not aliquot specimens. Avoid worksite collection. Phlebotomist should wear powderless gloves. Collection material such as alcohol swab should be lead-free. Once washed, fingers must not come in contact with any surface. |
