Methodology
Micronutrient, Vitamin A (Retinol), Vitamin C, and Vitamin E: This test was developed and its analytical performance characteristics have been determined by Quest Diagnostics. It has not been cleared or approved by FDA. This assay has been validated pursuant to the CLIA regulations and is used for clinical purposes.

Preferred Specimen(s)
3 mL serum - protected from light
Minimum Volume
1.5 mL
Collection Instructions
Patients should be 18 years of age or greater.
Gently invert specimen 5 times (DO NOT SHAKE!), allow to clot for 30-60 minutes at room temperature, centrifuge 10 minutes.
Separate serum into 3 amber plastic transport tubes:
1 mL (0.5 mL min) for Vitamin A and E, protect from light, ship frozen (can be refrigerated).
1 mL (0.5 mL min) for Vitamin C, freeze immediately, protect from light, ship frozen.
1 mL (0.5 mL min) for CoQ10, protect from light, ship refrigerated. Do not ship on dry ice.
Coenzyme Q10 must NOT be shipped on dry ice.
Vitamin C must be shipped on dry ice. Additionally, for remote collection sites, or those with no access to ultra-low freezers or dry ice, it is recommended to schedule patient visits/draws after 12:00 p.m. local time and store the samples at -10° C to -30° C freezers (stable for 8 hours) until picked up by courier. Couriers should then transfer samples to -70° C storage (on dry ice) while enroute to the performing site location.
Transport Container
Ship in amber tube or wrap specimen tubes in aluminum foil to protect from light
